Our Mission

We believe that accurate economic , social and technological information is important knowledge all members of our society should have. We aspire to demystify seemingly complex topics for the average person, ensuring a myriad of sources are obtained while keeping the content we write for our users easy to engage with.

Our History

United by a passion to publish, the magazine was founded in 2013 by Brooklyn-based, editor in chief, Michael Robertson. NYC Journals’ staff consists of meticulous individuals who have worked at The Gothamist, NY Times, Gawker and CNN. Our core values of accuracy, integrity, and dedication to our reporting has been present for over a decade and they are what will guide us in the future.

“Like all learning, financial education is a process that should begin at an early age and continue throughout life. This cumulative process builds the skills necessary for making critical financial decisions that affect one’s ability to attain the assets, such as education, property, and savings, that improve economic well-being.”

-Alan Greenspan, economist and former chair of the Federal Reserve of the United States

NYC Journals motto: “Lux per scripturam” Latin phrase meaning “Light through writing”. Since the inception of our magazine, we’ve been driven by a simple mission: to enlighten people about money—how it works, how to grow it, and how to protect it. From financial literacy to investing strategies, we’ve published a wide range of articles covering the stock and bond markets, real estate, cryptocurrency, 401(k)s and Roth IRAs, mutual funds, hedge funds, and more.

Most members of our team were born and raised right here in New York City, where conversations about money—rent, hustle, struggle, opportunity—were a constant part of growing up. Whether it was overheard on subway platforms or around dinner tables, finance was never just about numbers—it was about survival, sky-high prices, and freedom.

Unfortunately financial literacy isn’t high in the United States. We seek to do our part to remedy this.
